DSi Console 1.4.3 Update Blocks DS Cards

Nintendo have just released yet another update for the DSi console that blocks most flash cards. The update might be in response to the 3DS’s 2.1.0.3 update (making both consoles compatible with each other) or it could just be another patch that temporarily disables homebrew applications. Regardless, we recommend that you do not update your DSi or DSi XL until manufacturers have fixes for the new 1.4.3 firmware ready.

The update displays like this after executing:

Most recent update:
June 29, 2011.
Nintendo DSi Menu Ver 1.4.3A
This update provides behind-the-scenes improvements to system performance.

There currently appears to be no noticable difference in system performance so it is widely believed the update exists for either 3DS compatibility or flash card blocking.

In the mean time, continue enjoying your DSi consoles with the 1.4.2 firmware!

Nintendo 3DS v2.1.0-3X Firmware Update

The biggest news with the Nintendo 3DS has been undoubtedly the V2.0.0-2X firmware update.  This brought with it many planned features for the 3DS, including the eShop.  This update of course blocked all cards, and some of them have yet to release proper fixes for it.  Of far less attention was the firmware update that came shortly after it, v2.1.0-3X.  This update came in with little fanfare and many people did not realize it was released.

There was some fear that it would once again block cards, but from all reports, it has not affected any cards that did already work with v2.0.0-2X.  This new release was just a hotfix for Ridge Racer that was experiencing repeated freezing even with the retail cartridge.

Canada Postal Strike: Canadian Customers Please Read

Update 29/Jun/11: The postal strike is now over. However, there are large backlogs of post to Canada, and lots of post sent now will either be severely delayed or lost. We will wait a few days (until 2/3 July) before sending our outstanding Canadian orders, to make sure they get to our customers safely. :-)

Our postal contacts have informed us of a postal strike in Canada.  It is not national, but concentrated on major mail centers in Toronto and Montreal.  It is enough of a disruption where packages sent may not arrive at all, especially not in any timely fashion.

The United States Postal Service will not accept any packages sent to Canada except by their Global Express service, which is sourced through FedEx, a private courier unaffected by the strike.  Prices for Global Express start at $35.  We will look into other options, especially if the strike drags on, but for now that may be the only method.

We’re continuing to accept Canadian orders but won’t send them out until the strike is over. If you need an order sent by Global Express, please e-mail us directly and we’ll help.

If you reside or wish to ship to Canada please email us at sales@dscardworld.com for instructions.

iEdge Fix for DSi v.1.4.2 Safe to Update

The Edge team has finally released a new fix for DSi v1.4.2.  This will allow you to maintain compatibility with the latest firmware update and still access the DSiWare store.  If your DSi is already updated to v1.4.2, then you will have to borrow a DS Lite or DSi v1.4.1 or older.  The flash update will change the game icon from Shikakui to Mech Assault. Periodically this will happen, it is highly recommended that you form a habit of refusing updates until you can confirm there is a corresponding fix for your iEdge card.

Please see our video here on how to update the iEdge (this video was for our previous 1.4.1 update).  The Bootstrap process will require different files, but the process is the same. You may have to tap the game icon to load the start the update process.

The new Bootstrap v4 can be downloaded from the iEdge website http://www.edge-ds.cn/download.html.

The ROM to flash with is the game Mech Assault: Phantom War with ID number 0563.  The icon image is shown below.

Acekard Quick-on-the-Trigger, fixes 3DS v2.0.0-2 Firmware

We were kind of surprised when Acekard was NOT the first team to fix the DSi v1.4.2 firmware.  They were working on a huge update to fix BOTH DSi v1.4.2 and 3DS v2.0.0-2 .  Literally the day after the new update or 3DS came out, Acekard was there, ready with a counter, and as of now, they are the only card we carry to support the new release.  Other cards will have their own fixes as time goes a long.  We created a video to document the update process and the Acekard 2i working on a 3DS with this new update.  You can check that out on our youtube channel here.

The video is embedded below.

The v2.0.0-2 firmware for Nintendo 3DS is the larges one yet to come out.  It’s a the first indication we get of the 3DS’s real online potential with the inclusion of an app store called the “eShop” and web browser.  Early updaters were also rewarded with a free classic game Excitebike.  Also prominently featured is the legendary Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Game Boy Color version, my personal first experience with the Zelda series.  This is a taste of all the new content that will become available for your 3DS, accessible from anywhere via wifi.

There was a lot of apprehension about what this 3DS update would have for our customers.  There was a lot of fear, and misinformation that the update would initiate a policy of bricking your console when using a custom flash card, and that the update would be forced onto customers simply by being online.  Nothing has changed since the DSi.  The update is voluntary and must be manually applied, nor is your console at any risk of being bricked.  That being said, if you won anything other then an Acekard 2i, as of today Jun 10th, or it is not yet flashed with the new firmware, then please do not update your 3DS as it will block your card.

You can purchase your own Acekard 2i from DSCardWorld here.

R4i 3DS first to work on DSi v1.4.2!

Images in this blog post reproduced with the permission of Nintendo DS Cards and R4 DS Revolution

The R4i 3DS is the very first card confirmed to work on the newly released Nintendo DSi v1.4.2 firmware update.  There has been a lot of misinformation out there, but we have confirmed this ourselves.  No other card to our knowledge works on the new firmware yet, but expect the other developers to release their own fixes shortly. Traditionally the Acekard and EZFlash teams have been reasonably quick to respond so we are waiting on them next, we suspect – although the M3i Zero team have also been working on a fix. We have chronicled the fix for the R4i 3DS in the images below, and have made the .nds firmware fix file available for download.

Please note, that if you own the discontinued R4i SDHC v1.4.1, there is a fix available for that as well but will require a different file. Please visit the official R4i website (r4i-sdhc.com) for details if you do have this version.

Step 1

Pick up the Nintendo console you are going to use to flash your R4i 3DS. If you have not yet updated your Nintendo DSi’s firmware to 1.4.2, you’re fine with the DSi. However, if your DSi is already updated you must borrow a DS Lite, 3DS, or DSi v1.4.1 or lower. You cannot update your R4i card using a Nintendo DSi console that is already using the 1.4.2 firmware.

Step 2

Download the fix file from the R4i official website here and copy it onto the Micro SD card with your R4i menu files. The fix for the R4i SDHC v1.4.1 is available here. Don’t forget you need to unzip the files using a program like WinRAR or WinZIP.

Step 3

Insert the R4i 3DS into your console once all the files are on the Micro SD card

Step 4

Boot into the R4i menu and select the .nds update file.

Step 5

Follow the onscreen instructions and wait for it to complete, it might take a fair while so be patient. The game it shows up as will change to Spongebob Squarepants. It will show a progress bar that slowly gets to 100%.

Step 6

Test it out on the updated DSi. You’ll see the Spongebob Squarepants logo which indicates that the DSi 1.4.2 update was successful.

Please download the fix file below and copy onto your micro sd card.  You may have to use a DS Lite, 3DS, or pre v1.4.2 DSi to perform the update.

Enjoy your new 1.4.2-compatible R4i 3DS! And remember – all cards bought from DSCardWorld will be pre-flashed so you won’t have to do anything! You can buy your own R4i 3DS card here.

New DSI v1.4.2 Firmware Released -DO NOT UPDATE

Hello, we’re here again with another round of updates for all DSi and DSi xL consoles.  The new update so far as known blocks all current cards on the market.  There is a lot of misinformation out there about the R4i 3DS working on Dsi v1.4.2.  We have thoroughly tested the R4i 3DS and it does NOT work on the new firmware.  Please disregard other reports for now.  As usual, we recommend that you refuse to update your DSi, it should be a voluntary process, simply avoid the DSi Ware store and System Update fuction.

For now we cannot claim that any of our current cards have DSi v1.4.2 functionality.  The following cards will likely get updates in the coming couple of weeks as they are firmware flashable to counter such updates; the Acekard 2i, the EZFlash Vi, the M3i Zero, and the iEdge card.  Please do not update your DSi consoles until fixes are confirmed to be available.  You will likely not have a reason to update your DSi consoles in any case and you are always free to keep it at its current version.

Nintendo 3DS Compatible Cards

Dear past and present DS fans,

After a bit of a wait, we can now reveal our current lineup of cards that work on the new 3DS console! The reason we did not release this earlier is that we always test every card on new firmware and wanted to be 100% sure all cards are pre-flashed and ready to ship.

It’s worth emphasising that all of the below-cards ship ready-to-work on the 3DS with no flashing required – just put the firmware on your Micro-SD card and off you go. So, without further ado:

Acekard 2i

R4i 3DS

M3i Zero

EZFlash Vi

Unlike other stores, we guarantee all our cards are:

  • Genuine – direct from original manufacturers ONLY. No fake/clones, or any cards like R4i Ultras/Golds/M3Adaptes/N5/etc.
  • 100% individually (takes a while but it’s worth it!) tested before sending them to customers
  • 24/7 customer support and after-sales service
  • Come pre-flashed and ready to play!

Also note that the M3i Zeros we have in stock are the newest hardware model GMP-Z003 (manufacturer’s code) that is compatible with the new 3DS console. :-)

Visit the DSCardWorld site now or click on any of the images to head to the store!

As always, any questions or comments, please do e-mail us via sales [at] dscardworld [dot] com!

R4i SDHC Shortage!

The R4i SDHC is experiencing a shortage in stock currently.  It might be a 1-2 week delay until we are able to get new cards in.  The R4i SDHC team is reworking the design in order to carry DSi functionality onto the new Nintendo 3DS.  We will thoroughly test the new cards, but may be unable to verify 3DS compatibility, even for DSi games,  until we have had a chance to test it on the new platform.

At this time we cannot guarantee 3DS functionality of any kind, but it should still work fine on any current DSi or DS Lite console. Please be aware of the delay, we will have all orders dispatched for R4i SDHC as soon as able.  If you wish to have a card sooner, we recommend selecting one of the other DSi cards found at our store http://www.dscardworld.com

All DSi Cards at DSCardWorld Now v1.4.1 Compatible!

Every single card now sold at DSCardWorld will work out of the box on DSi v1.4.1. The letter at the end v1.4.1E and v1.4.1U does not matter as firmware is exactly the same. All cards will come with the latest updates pre-applied so there is no need to perform the risky flash process on the outset.

The R4i SDHC is a new model that is compatible with v1.4.1. Currently there is no fix to make a V1.4 compatible with v1.4.1. The iEdge was the last card to get the update, but the Edge team took the time to create their own fix rather then copying the Acekard 2i fix, and released it concurrently with new menu software updates. As before the EZFlash Vi never needed an update.

As always, simply tap the game icon to gain access to the menu once the files have been loaded onto the micro sd card.  Currently our cards will show up as the following games.

“Alex Rider Stormbreaker”:

Acekard 2i
M3i Zero
R4i SDHC v1.4.1

“Shikakui Atama wo Maruku Suru DS Joushiki Nanmon no Shou”:

iEdge

“Tak and the Great Juju Challenge”:

EZFlash Vi
